Dear Fellow Contributor,
In 2000, the Philadelphia Police Boat Team was founded and organized by members
of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Our mission and commitment is to promote fraternity amongst various law enforcement agencies inclusive of participating and raising funds for charitable events.
Our team is comprised of various law enforcement members from the Philadelphia Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, United States Secret Service, United States Customs, United States Marshals Service and other members from federal, state and local law enforcement organizations.
Our team trains regularly on the Schuylkill River in Dragon Boats and Outrigger Canoes. We have competed both nationally and inter-nationally and have medaled in numerous events
In 2004, several members of our team competed at the Protective Services International Dragon Boat Festival in Tianjin, China. In 2007, several members represented the United States and competed in the World Championship Dragon Boat Races in Sydney, Australia, whereby the United States captured the World Championship title and the Nation’s Cup.
Since inception, our team has raised funds for charitable organizations like the Philadelphia Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors or C.O.P.S.. We have also taken part in events where we have paddled with children, including the “Survivors,” a Down Syndrome group of youth paddlers. We have also raised funds in memory of our fallen officers killed in the line of duty.
This year, our team will focus on working with the Philadelphia Police Athletic League (PAL). The basic mission of PAL is to offer young people a viable and constructive alternative to the temptations of "street life" which can lead to a life of crime, alcoholism, drugs, vandalism, and delinquency. Former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson considered PAL to be “the best proactive crime prevention tool in the city of Philadelphia today.”
Our team is designated as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization as described in section 501c (3) of the IRS Code for 1984, as amended. Should you choose to contribute to our team; adequate records of your contribution will be maintained and made available to the IRS upon request. In accordance with IRS regulations, no goods or services will be provided by our team as part of, or in exchange for, your contribution. Our tax identification number is 14-1872386.
Thank you for your consideration in this worthwhile matter.
Sincerely,
Detective Frank McClain
President
Philadelphia Police Boat Team
